TEACHING PHILOSOPHY AND SERVICES OFFERED
I truly enjoy teaching music. I know that playing the guitar is a gift that can last a lifetime and that the right instructor can have a profound impact on one's life. That's why I provide a healthy, positive atmosphere for my students. All of my lessons are custom tailored to fit the needs of the student. I do not believe that 'one size fits all' when it comes to music lessons. If you are a student, your lessons will be focused on the style of music that You want to play and getting you the skills needed to play that style.
I teach both electric and acoustic guitar, flat picking and fingerstyle. I'm knowledgeable in Rock (Classic to Metal and Alternative), Jazz, Blues, Funk, Latin, Classical and Flamenco, Country, Reggae and Ska. I'm probably the most eclectic instructor in Reno. I also offer instruction in Music Theory and Harmony, composition, improvisation (playing leads), arrangement, ear training and reading music. I can also transcribe or tab any song or solo of your choosing. Proper technique and consistent practice plans will always be encouraged.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
I have been teaching music for over 20 years, including my experience as the faculty guitar instructor at the University of Nevada, Reno. I've received an Honors Diploma from the Musician's Institute (GIT), Los Angeles, CA, and am a recipient of UNR's Momand Scholarship. I began performing professionally at the age of 19 with groups and as a solo artist on guitar and bass in a variety of music styles. I currently play with the Middle East fusion group Slow Djinn Fez as their guitarist, bassist, composer, and arranger.

"Dennis is a great guitar instructor who has the ability and knowledge to teach many, many different guitar styles. He is very personable, professional, and above all, knowledgeable. He will gladly teach you anything you want to know, i.e. your favorite song on the radio right now, but he can also broaden your horizons by introducing you to other styles. In my experience, he also does great with what can be a tough age group: teenagers and young adults." - Laura Jacobsen
